Loved the creative writing prompts, distinguishing this from other journals I’ve had in the past. The one bummer is the companion book that teaches you best practices for using THIS book. The step-by-step technique that is used is very easy to follow and being overweight myself and in need of self-love, this is a winner. Barnack -- Do-It Yourself Journal : This is a “guided journal,” that is, a journal framework with lots of empty space for writing entries, and prompts, suggestions, and instructions to stir the journalist’s imagination while making those entries. This one covers 90 days and is intended to spur daily journaling, reflection, goal setting, planning, and following through, among other things, such as dreaming and developing gratitude. Research has shown that journaling can benefit mental health in various ways, e.g., tracking goals, self-confidence, stress reduction. It also has drawbacks, such as wasting time and focusing on minutia. The journal being reviewed appears to be a safe and reasonable way to get started in the journaling habit. Think of the prompts as training wheels for journal writing. After getting the hang of it, move on to notebooks or, if you want to appear cultured, use one of those hardcovers filled with blank pages. One quibble I have with this product is the words “self love” in its title. Self esteem is the adult term. Self-love is for kids and narcissists. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021 )
